Fri 1st August 2003
Another lazy start - up 9 ish, good shower, breakfast and off at about 11:30 ish.
Cruised for some way, then an exhilarating sail for a good distance. Engine needed bleeding again on re-start.
An exhilarating sail.
Called into Rossmore for lunch of sandwiches skilfully crafted from leftovers by Dave.
Then we tried to motor up the river at Rossmore, as suggested by a gentleman we met at Portumna, but it was too shallow.
Motored down all the way to Holy island, with two notable incidents on the way.
First, called briefly into Dromaan, without stopping.
Second, on passing too close to Youngs Island, we crashed the rocks.
The engine took the opportunity to fail, and the depth sounder came out in sympathy.
Another bleeding of the fuel system followed, along with an engineers' thump on the sounder batteries.
Had some trouble getting off, but did with no damage as far as we know.
Holy Island.
Arrived at Holy Island, and after some experimentation with the anchor finally anchored at about 6:00.
Had a good look around Holy Island, which was some sort of holy site in days gone by,
with the remains of 3 churches (very simple structures) and a few other structures of religious significance.
Leaving Holy Island.
A good blast downwind.
Set sail for Garrykennedy at 8:30 ish, and had a good blast across the Lough, mooring at about 9:00 in the harbour.
A quick dash up the road meant we were in time for the spectacular food at Larkins, washed down once again with a
couple of pints of the black stuff. Later, more live music.
Took some photos of the musicians, who later asked me for a copy - which I must remember to send them.
Spectacular food.
Live music at Larkins.
Larkins.
Bed at gone midnight.
